About the Singapore Dollar
Everyday Singapore banknotes are $2, $5, $10, $50 and $100 (the $1,000 note is no longer issued). Printed on durable polymer, the SGD is one of Asia's strongest and most stable currencies.
Singapore is highly cashless — cards cover the MRT and malls. Hawker centres and local eateries, however, still run plenty of cash-only stalls. For chicken rice and laksa hopping, small $2, $5 and $10 notes are your friends.
Tips for Exchanging Singapore Dollars
Small notes for hawker centres
Meals run around S$5 and many stalls are cash-only. Carry plenty of $2 and $5 notes.
Cards for the rest
Shopping and attractions are card-friendly. Keep cash for hawkers, taxis and small kiosks only.
Stopover? A little goes far
For a transit stay, exchanging just meal and transport money is enough — small exchanges are welcome.
