About the Thai Baht

Thai banknotes come in 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1,000 baht, currently featuring King Rama X. Treating banknotes carelessly is deeply disrespectful in Thailand because they bear the King's portrait — never step on or throw money.

Cards and QR payments are common in Bangkok malls, but street stalls, markets, tuk-tuks and taxis still run on cash. 20 and 100 baht notes do the daily work; a 1,000 baht note is nearly impossible to break at a food stall.

Tips for Exchanging Baht

Handle notes with respect

Notes carry the King's portrait. Keeping them neat and never stepping on them is basic etiquette in Thailand.

Live on 20s and 100s

Street meals cost 50–80 baht. Break 1,000 baht notes early at convenience stores or malls.

Cash for markets and taxis

QR payment is spreading, but cash is the traveler's reliable option — small notes also cover hotel tips (about 20 baht).

FAQ: Thai Baht

Is there a commission for THB exchange?

No. Everything is included in the displayed rate — the buy and sell rates you see are exactly what you get.

Are King Rama IX notes still valid?

Yes, the previous series remains legal tender. We also buy them back after checking their condition.

Do you exchange baht coins?

We handle banknotes only. We recommend spending coins at convenience stores before leaving Thailand.
